Ok. So. Third times a charm. My truck was intermittently cutting out while driving for a few months. Died at one point last week. Replaced the distributor cap. Wouldn't start. Let it sit a few hours and it started but took a second. Drove the 150 miles home. Two days later. Started and died about four or five times before it got going. Started fine for the rest of the day. Went home. Tried to start it two days later. Nothing. Cranking but no starting. Let it sit overnight. Started the next morning, ran a few seconds very rough, backfired out of the throttle body(flames and all), so we killed the engine. Haven't tried to start it since. 90% sure it is not a fuel problem. I had fuel issues in this truck before and it didn't act like this. Any help.

Flames are good. Ha Ha. These systems were known for some strange stuff when the ignition module started flaking out. The module is inside the distributor and is an electronic part. Most major auto parts stores can test them out of the vehicle. Sound like yours make have taken the death spiral. The module is told by the computer when to fire the coil but that only happens after about 300-400 rpm. Till then it fires from it's internal circuitry. I would start with that as it is probably the oem part.
