My truck is not starting. I replaced the alternator, belt, camshaft position sensor, spark plugs, distributor. So I checked the fuel pump and got a spark plug tester both are good. When you stop at a stop sign it would shut off or when you put it in gear it will just shut off. And Friday I was going up a hill and it shut off and now I have a crank but no start.

Good morning,

There are several reasons for a no start.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/car-cranks-but-wont-start

1. Fuel pump. You need to test the actual pressure. Low pressure would cause all these issues.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-fuel-system-pressure-and-regulator

2. Spark. Check and see if the tachometer moves up a little while cranking to see if the crank sensor is sending a signal to the PCM.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-an-ignition-system

3. Compression. I would check the compression as well.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-test-engine-compression

Is the check engine light on or was it on when it was running?

The check engine light was on. I reset the computer to rule out a fail-safe. I also have checked the fuel pressure and it was good.

Okay, what was the code? You should never reset a code without investigating why it was set.

What was the pressure?

What about spark and compression?

Before I reset the codes I had 5 codes (p0404, p0405, p1345, p0300, p0341). When I did the pressure test it was around 50 psi. I got a spark plug tester and it light up when I tried to start it. I have not done a compression test yet.

Okay, the fuel pressure is no good. It should be 60-66 lbs. I would start by replacing the fuel pump.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-replace-an-electric-fuel-pump

When you order it, tell them the 8th digit of the VIN number. Otherwise, you could get the wrong one and it will not start.

While driving down the road the engine quits running. I have changed the fuel filter twice and added fuel injector cleaner and I am still having the same problem.

2 days ago, my check engine came on. Today, while running down the highway at 60 miles per hour, the engine just quit running. The motor will try to start, but will not run. What is the problem?

It sounds to me like a fuel pump problem, but the check engine light will probably tell tell us what is wrong, have want your buddies tow you to the nearest part store and have them download the code's, and then we will know what is really wrong with it

2002 chevy silverado v6. 130,000 miles. The engine won't stay running. I have changed the spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor (these were due to be changed anyway). I have checked ignition coil and ignition control module as per the instructions in chilton manual and everything is ok. I have checked it with an actron obd II autoscanner and no trouble codes are received. The engine shudders and dies as though the fuel is suddenly cut off or cut short (sometimes it shudders badly but does not die). It does this at idle and while driving. It started a couple of weeks ago and has just gotten worse. I don't know if I have bad fuel. I have been through a tank and a half since the trouble started. If it is a fuel delivery problem how do I diagnose if it is intermitent? What else could it be?

When idling, the truck will cut off 60% of the time. It cranks back up right away, but sometimes I have to wiggle the gear shifter on the column. If I keep my foot on the gas peddle slightly, it will keep running when idling. When driving down the road there is no problem at all. There is no hesitation, jerking, no lights (from message center or otherwise) that comes on. I replace the battery several months ago, spark plugs and fuel filter a few days ago-still no change. I have ordered an ignition switch. Also, the tow light comes on without me engaging it. The button will not cut it off. I have to put the key in the on position and pump the gas pedal three times and then crank it. It will go off then.

Good morning.

There is an Idle air control on the throttle body that controls the idle. It is a common failure for this issue.

Before you replace this, make sure the throttle body plate is clean of all carbon deposit build up. A dirt throttle body will cause this as well.

Roy,
I did what you suggested and look forward to testing it out tomorrow. It was nasty in there and it cleaned up nicely.
Will keep you posted.
