My brother came in with an engine check light on, engine was misfiring at idle, put the scanner on got a code "P0301 cylinder 1 misfiring". Swapped the spark plugs from cylinder 1 and 2 no fix, but found cylinder 1 plug to be a bit wet a small smell of fuel, check the wiring all looks good. Guessing the coil pack is faulty, cannot swap the coil around since it's a pack. Is there a continuity test or resistance check that can be done with a multimeter to confirm the coil pack is faulty? Try to listen for any vacuum leaks didn't hear anything. Should a cylinder 1 compression test be done? Should I be swapping fuel injectors 1 and 2 also?

In short, yes, we have testing for this coil module.

I will attach it below, but here are a couple guides that will help with this testing:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-a-voltmeter

Please see the attached testing and wiring diagrams and let us know what you find.

Please let me know what questions you have.

Thanks

While troubleshooting for the problem, all of the sudden car won't start at all, not cranking plus I found that the central locking with the key is not working, very strange, central locking from inside button is working but with the key is not locking. Any ideas? My guessing a fuse or relay has gone bad.

Yes. Clearly a misfire would not cause this or be related (most likely) so we are going to have to get a new post started for a no start issue.

Unfortunately, that is a popular failure and others will not find the solution to that under this post.

Once we figure out the no start issue, we can get back on the misfire.

Clearly a misfire doesn't matter if the engine is not running. :)

That is great that the misfire is gone.

As for the coil draining the battery, it can if it is shorted and causing constant power to flow through it to ground.

Which could cause the locking issue that you were seeing. Basically, when the battery is draining the control modules start load shedding and a lot of functions stop working just to try and save as much current to start the engine or the more important systems.

Great find and thanks for updating us.
