Do these camshaft codes always mean bad news? I see them on so many vehicles and was wondering if sole can be easily fixed. I always try to avoid them when buying cars, but they are so common, and some cars don't even have symptoms. Other similar codes are p0015, p0016, and others. I know sometimes it could be due to a bad sensor, dirty solenoids, dirty oil. What can be done to fix it if it's more than that, as in cam issues, I guess?

Hi,

Cam codes are very common. However, replacing the sensor doesn't always fix the issue. The code you provided (P0011) indicates an issue with the variable valve timing being over-advanced. This can be the result of a camshaft adjustment valve being damaged, dirty, or plugged. Also, it is an electrical component, so wiring and electrical should be taken into consideration as a possible issue. Also, the ECM, in this case, could also be failing.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

So, it's not that the timing is off its just advanced or retarded.

Based on the code, it is advanced. This can be the timing belt also. Anything that can cause the timing to be too far advanced can set this code.

I hope this helps.

Take care,
