The best way to describe it is when I leave the car start and idle and lift the bonnet up it’s like a clunking noise every few seconds and sometimes it gets louder and worse but as soon as I put my foot on the clutch the sound goes away. But it sounds like bolts around in the engine compartment

Hi,

If it goes away when you depress the clutch, it's likely related to the release bearing for the clutch.

Is it possible for you to record the sound and upload it for me to hear?

Here is a link that explains how in general to replace a clutch. I'm adding it in the event it needs done.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe
