Electrical problem
2001 Citroen Xantia Manual

Been Having Problems with the electrics on my xantia 2.0 HDI for a while.

Problem started on the way to work. Pop in the shop for a paper come out and when I put the key in the ignition the orange key light on the dash was coming on and then flashing. Had auto recovery come out who said it was the immobiliser and recovered my car to my home! When unloading the car from the recovery vehicle the problem had gone and the car started up! This was after an hour or so. The engine run but cut out after a few minutes

This was the fuel pump which was not engaging hence no start after messing around with the relays under the bonnet I noticed a clicking noise when moving the relays and related parts. This eventually engaged the fuel pump and the car worked fine.

I used the car as normal for a few days then the problem occured again. Played around with the relays and hey presto it all come to life.

NOW. I had this problem a few mornings ago. Fuel pump was not engaging messed with relays engine started. I knocked then engine off and went in the house got my work gear and so on went out to car. Put key into ignition and the usual orange key light which comes on the dash wasn't coming on at all. The engine turns over, the fuel pump is engaging but the car wont start. I'm assuming its something to do with they key. But as far as I know when the key is not recognised the orange key light on the dash flashes but this is not happening as the is no key light coming on at all.

I have tried the spare key, charged the battery, looked around all fuses, relays, earths cant find anything as of yet.

Remove the battery terminals for 5 minutes. See if the light comes back after reconnecting. If not, the car needs plugging into a diagnostic computer to locate the fault !
