My car has started making a high pitched whistling/grating noise aligned to the engine revs. As the revs go up, the noise gets louder and more pronounced. If I depress the clutch when moving, the noise immediately goes as the revs drop to 1000rpm, then starts again when the clutch is released. No other indications such as temperature, pressure showing. The only thing I can compare the noise to is something like a Scalectrix car going round the circuit. Any ideas?

Thanks Dave H. Turned out to be a drivewheel for the belt. All sorted now. Just need to sort out the satnav which is going!
