1996 Citroen C1 Engine Pinging

Actually My car is Citroen AX 1996, Engine is 954cc. When I accelerate after shifting to 3rd gear. I can hear a rattle or pinging noise. Could you please advise what is the cause of engine pinging in my car. Thank you. George

Have the vehicle scanned using a diagnostic computer. Sounds like it is getting too much fuel?
