I spray wd40 oil or similar on the alternator belt this gets rid of the squeak?

Hi I have a squeaking noise in my van, have been to the garage 3 times, still not repaired had the alternator belt changed but that made no difference, when I spray wd40 oil or similar on the alternator belt this gets rid of the squeak until it drys up then it just starts again. My Citroën dealer now want to change the timing belt, is there any chance that's the prob or is it more likely a pulley related to the alternator belt?

Hello,

If you spray a belt dressing on to the belt and the noise goes away until it dries up.
Then more than likely it is the belt.
Also you need to make sure the belt tensioner is in good shape and the pully spins freely and the tensioner is putting enough pressure on the belt.
If the tensioner sized it can make the belt squeal as it could put too much or too little tension on the belt.
