My 2003 Chrysler T&C van will make a sound when turning like it is low on power steering fluid. The fluid level is full. It makes the sound only occasionally. Could the power steering pump be going out? It has 71,000 miles on it.

HI:
It is unusual for a pump to go bad at such a low mileage, but it does happen. Have a mechanic check the rack and pinion for problems.

Let me know what you find.

Go autoparts store and buy ATF+4. Very important +4. I had a major whine from my power steering pump. I sucked out as much of the fluid as possible from the reservoir, filled it back up with ATF+4, and whine went away almost immediately. You might have to repeat this process, or drain the pump completely to replace all the fluid with ATF+4. But this was an easy quick fix to my problem.
