I also have a '02 - 2.7V6, which just experienced that same problem you have, right before a water pump failure caused massive amounts of coolant to leak into the motor oil!

The V6-2.7 is notorious for engine sludge issues (under/poorly designed oil pathways-Class action suit in the US ongoing) AND a water pump prone to fail, usually into the engine(oil) instead of flowing out the weep hole, very bad design I've been told.

Mine started with 'intermittent' coolant level drops over the last year or so which stabilized after using 'Iron-tite' coolant stop-leak/conditioner from NAPA. (Bars-leak, prestone, etc did nothing for my pump leak).

As I write this my car sits at the Chrysler dealership; new water pump (6-7 hrs labour!) Installed, so I figure I might as well do the timing chain & guides (222,000kms), 3 oil flush/changes later they tell me the lifters are still noisy, but improving.

So tomorrow after spending $2200+, I am hoping it does not blow apart in the next 6months! They can not guarantee the bearings will not fail due to coolant exposure.

Hope yours is not the 2.7 V6.

No, 1st sign was an erratic idle (I thought my 1 week old crankshaft sensor went again) due to massive quantities of coolant in the oil (no leak on the ground).
I turned it off and checked the coolant level which was way down, added 2/3 of gallon 50/50 antifreeze, but it still ran like cra.
10 minutes later I made it to the Canadian border, where it stalled on the US side. Went into the duty free washroom to fill up my jug once more (put in another 1/2 gallon of water) and made it to the CDN side where it stalled again right at the customs booth.
I got it started finally and drove 2 km's back to our hotel (with hardly any power at this point).
I checked my oil level and it was at almost the top of the dip stick!
Since I have been running synthetic oil for some time now (with Zmax additive) my oil did NOT become a milky mess, it was still clear.
Towed back to the dealership, new waterpump, gaskets, etc. And 3 oil changes and so far(3 days) running fine with the heater working at idle as well.

Check you coolant level, if it is down even a little bit, I would suspect your waterpump seals are starting to go. Don't make my mistake and put in a stop leak, which 'temporarily' solved the problem but nearly fried my engine!
