How can determine if the self adjusting pulley need to be replaced

The belt should be tight enough that you can move it up and down aprox 3/4". Also, if you are having problems with this in wet conditions, make sure the plastic shield under the car that protects the belts is in position and not damaged. Finally, make sure all pulleys are aligned.
