190k miles, 5.2l (318 v8?). Ive got the wheel and brakes off the rear axle. How does the axle shaft come out so I can get the bearings pressed off/on. Is there a clip in the 3rd member or is it friction fit? These are most likely the original wheel bearings.

Either 7/14 or 81/4 you must remove the differential cover, unscrew the pin pull out the rod and push the axle in. Till the lock ring drops, use a bearing puller to remove the seal and bearing, if the housing and axle are in good shape (no burrs) use a standard bearing and seal, if they are nicked up, you can try a repair bearing. Once that middle spacer rod is out don't rotate the driveshaft, or you will have to put the side gears back in!

No problem, most rear drive Americans went to this type in the late 70's, but I did use Mitchell to be sure!
