Hello, I have the car listed above it is a police interceptor. About two weeks ago it began making this very light chattering noise that only happens under acceleration. The engine is very quiet at idle and only makes the sound when accelerating. With the hood open, the engine is very quiet and runs very smooth. I have used a mechanics stethoscope to see if the timing chain was causing the noise but it was very quiet and could not be heard. Could it be an exhaust leak or EGR problem? In the video it is very difficult to hear it as my phone did not really pick up the sound that well.
Thanks

I listened to this several times and the only thing I hear, very faintly is some whine like a pulley or the alternator when diodes go bad. But this might not be what your talking about. Is it high or low pitched? We need to determine if it is vehicle speed or engine speed specific to narrow it down.

It is more of a high pitched sound. When I let off the gas and coast, the sound goes away.

Is there any way that you could get another recording? Maybe have a passenger record it. Would like to help you figure it out, hopefully something simple.

I will be able to get another recording on Monday. The alternators on these cars are common to have issues, I will keep diagnosing.

Sounds like an exhaust leak if I am hearing what you are talking about. The EGR pipe on these cars always break. Used to be a normal part of a 60,000 service for me.

I think so too. I also forgot to mention that the sound does get quieter as it warms up. I will look into finding the source of it probably next weekend.
Thanks
