Electrical problem - 1981 Chevy Truck

When I turn the ignition key on, I hear a "pop" - the 20 amp fuse is blown. I've replaced it numerous times but can't find the cause. When this occurs, I get no reading from the fuel gauge nor the amp gauge to the alternator.

The engine is a 1985 350 1-ton. I have dual gas tanks on the truck. I changed the fuel tank selector switch (this occurred once before and doing this fixed the problem). Any suggestions on what my next steps should be? I have a repair manual for the truck but can't pinpoint what I should do. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Oh boy, electrical problems rot! Every fuse has a line and a load. If you pull the fuse and turn the key, test which terminal has 12 volts. There should be one with voltage, (LINE) You DO NOT want this one. You want the one with NO VOLTAGE (LOAD). There is a wire connected to the load terminal.-- This is where it rots-- follow that wire back to where ever it goes. You will find it shorting out somewhere.
