EGR Problem?

My 1991 Chevy 1500 was running fine but giving me a code for a bad EGR valve. I replaced the valve and the EGR solenoid. Now if I ease into the throttle it chokes and almost shuts off. If I give it full throttle it seems to have more power than before. It idles fine. Do I have to reset the ECU after changing the EGR valve? Could I have gotten the wrong EGR valve?

Anyone have any ideas?

I have the same code for my '98. It's running fine now, except for a few times a couple weeks back were it stalled. I just got an EGR valve on order. Is your service engine soon light still on?
