I drive a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu with 69,XXX-miles
on it. At highway speeds, the engine rpm's "surge"
200-300-rpm's under no load. No "service engine"
lights or codes appear. We have serviced the fuel-
injectors, checked the plugs and wires and finally
replaced the fuel-injectors. We still get the "surge".

We also took out the K&N filter thinking it may have
contaminated the MAF sensor and replaced it with a
Fram paper-filter. We cleaned the MAF sensor and we
still get the "surge" Any suggestions? Should we now
replace the MAF sensor?

your problem could be a number of things however sometimes cleaning the maf sensor does no good depending on whether it is a hot film type or not if the maf sensor was contaminated with oil i would say it is best to replace it rather than clean it if you dont have any diagnostic equipment to properley test the sensor

Thanks. We have changed all of the fuel-injectors,
checked the plugs and wires, all to no avail. We
just changed the Mass Air Flow sensor today. The
car still surges the 200-300 rpm's at highway speeds.
It does this maybe two or three times in 25-miles.
Any suggestions as to what we should try next????

After running through all of the fuel-injector and
MAF sensor replacedment, we still have the surge.
We drove the car in D3 versus D/Over-drive and
the surge does not happen. Could this be slipping
in over-drive?
