Transmission problem
1975 Chevy Truck V8 Four Wheel Drive Manual

My clutch stopped disengaging. Instead of it slipping it wont disengage. The linkage to the tranny is fine. How it happened; Pulled into driveway put in neutral left it running. Came back to put it into gear and just grinds. Would'nt go in unless I shut off the engine. So I drove it home like that. Just started it in gear and smooth shifted it on the way home. While in route back I tryed to push in the clutch while shifting and it didnt realease. Except in 3rd and 4th gear when I was moving more then 40mph. But once stopped it wont disengage. I pulled the tranny and transfer case back a few inches to see if I could see any problem. But can only see clutch assembly and a bearing. Do you have any idea what would cause this? My truck is a 1975 chevy k 20 4 speed manual tranny.

It could be a few things. The pilot bearing or bushing could be bad, A bearing in the trany could be hanging up, Is it full of oil? With the tranny slid back can you spin the input or output shafts freely with it in nuetral? If its easy the bearings should be ok in the tranny. Might want to take a look at the pressure plate springs, If they break they cause problems.
