My Tahoe has a growling sound when in drive and it is coming from the back right side. A mechanic told me that it could be from the pads slipping off the e brake and that it could cause that noise. The e brake also does not work when pressed to the floor. Could this be true and if it is how difficult of a job is this to repair?

Sounds very logical. Ther are shoes inside the rotor for the parking brake. My guess is they need replacement. If you're going after it yourself, the ease is relative, some people are incapable and other would have no problem. Getting rotor off is usually the worst part of it, but pateince gets you through it. IF your having a shop do it, it would surprize me if it ran $500 by the time your done. The shoes, pads a nd rotors are often done at the same time.
