Engine Performance problem
1995 Chevy Suburban V8 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Re trying to change my fuel filter: My book warns of high pressure if I have the MFI fuel injection, and that it is very high even with the engine off (it gives the technical procedure for relieving the pressure if you do). But how can I figure out if I have that system? Is it enough just to take off the gas cap and have a rag around the fittings?
Thanks for any advice.

Usually if the vehicle sits overnight without being cranked or started, the fuel system shouldn't have much pressure on it. But, you do need to be careful. My info shows you have TBI, not much pressure. Use a rag over the connection and break it loose slowly. You could kill the fuel pump, then start the vehicle, let it run till it dies.

JDL, thanks for your reply. After loosening the fittings I lost about 1/4 cup of fuel, but my towel absorbed it and I got the new one in, so all is well. Still don't know how to find out what kind of fuel system I have. I'll take your word for it that its TBI but how did you know?

You can look it up in a database. Autozone has a lot of vehicle information, wiring diagrams, in their vehicle repair guides. Large libraries usually carry automotive databases.
