Hi Guys,

I am at my witts end. After changing the plugs, wires, rotor, cap, air firlter, checking fuses, my 98' Silverado 305 is not running well at all. I get backfire, terrible milage, it skips. I had the heads done about 2yrs ago, it ranwell for a good while now I cannot get it going. There was a time when it would run fine then at a traffic light just shut down, wait 5 min ( being yelled and cursed) then it would start only to do the same 2 traffic lights down the road. My wife is telling me to JUnk it. I need help? Miami Charlie

I'm a little lost with your timeline. When you say "there was a time when.", Does that mean it is still dying at red lights now? The first part where you said you replaced plugs, wires, etc and it misses, skips, and gets bad gas mileage. If the plug wires were put back on in the correct position on the distributor cap, and if none of the spark plugs were cracked while installing them (both of these are common things that happen when changing spark plugs and wires, even the best mechanics will do either of these sometimes), then I would be looking at the distributor cap and/or distributor.
