Transmission problem
1991 Chevy Silverado V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

after it warms up engine tachs out. The truck stays at low speed and builds up speed slowly. It slowly shifts after the rpms have been building up for a while. The transmission is full. This is on my brothers truck.

Hi:
I'm not sure I understand the question. When you say it tachs out, do you mean the RPM's climb really high before shifting? In park or neutral does it idle normal?

Let me know.

If it is the tranny can we get away using a basic $20 rebuild kit or do we need a tranny overhaul kit? What kit will fix that problem?

I need to know one more thing. Does the vehicle accelerate when the engine revs or does the trans seem like it is slipping? As far as a 20 dollar rebuild kit, I never heard of one. If the trans is slipping and not accellerating, then it will need overhauled with clutch plates. However, if it doesn't slip and just takes a long time to shift (high RPM's) chances are you have a bad shift solenoid.

Let me know.
