The truck starts fine but dies in about 5 seconds. When running it is smooth acts as if the igniiton is turned off. Fuel pump replaced and has 12 VDC all still running after the engine dies. Anti theft? Truck does not have power locks.

If the fuel pump is still running after the engine dies, then it isn't the anti-theft. Does it start right back up for another 5 seconds or do you have to wait to restart it? Has the check engine light come on? Here are tow guides to help us fix it

Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Idle air control valve bolted to the throttle body, or the TPS(throttle possition sensor) also bolted to the TB.

Clean your throttle/air intake with throttle and air intake cleaner. This video shows you how on your truck. It is not the greatest video but more than adequate to show you how to do it. Some recommend just using s rag to clean the intake instead of a brush as a brush may damage the special coating on some air intakes. This fixed my problem of the engine stalling at idle while in gear. Check it out:

Please run down this guide and report back.

The main problem is my truck keeps stalling, but it's intermittent. Problem began a week ago, and I haven't driven it much since.

It began as I was driving, and the electrical/guages seemed screwy - as I was going 30 mph, all of the guages (speed, rpm, elect, oil pressure, etc) would suddenly drop to zero quickly and steadily come back to normal, and it repeated several times. The engine still ran smoothly at speed, but I noticed that the radio had electrical feedback from the motor, and the digital odometer and radio seemed to go dim and come back, kind of flickering. Then the guage problem went away (and I don't think I've seen it since), but the engine would stall when I stopped at a stop sign. When I started it again, and put it in drive (or reverse), it would stall unless I revved the engine (feathering the rpm slightly higher) and put it in drive.

Since last week, I started it several times and sometimes it would start and run perfectly, other times the same stuff would happen. Even after sitting for several days, the engine seemed to turn over fine - although one time it started fine, then was completely dead a few minutes later, then started and ran rough / stalled again.

I had the plugs, wires, cap and rotor replaced a few weeks ago and it ran fine for at least 2 weeks before this, but I'll check if something has come loose. Also, I have a Hypertech tuner and no trouble codes have come up, and I just removed the only mod I had programmed, the shift firmness.

Thanks for any suggestions you can give me. I'll try to try them myself if possible, otherwise let a shop that I trust take care of me if it's beyond my abilities. I just don't want them to tell me they can't find any problems when they can't duplicate it!

. Brad ?

I just had the exact same problem with my truck. It is also a 2002 S-10. I ended up checking the battery first and found that every lead coming from the positive terminal was severely corroded. I followed them down to the junction with the 175amp fuse that leads to the accessories and found that corroded as well. I ended up going to Wal-Mart and getting a new side-post terminal cable and a second cable to splice for the accessories as the cables will be dealer parts and the dealer was closed. So far I have not had the problem after these repairs.

I am experiencing a hesitation while engine is cool around 100 degrees and idling or while driving, but once the temperature rises to 150 degrees, either idling or driving the hesitation goes away. Seems to only occur while cold. Any idea what is causing this?

Chances are there is a problem with the coolant temperature sensor. The sensor tells the computer how cold the engine is and from that, the computer determines how rich or lean to make the fuel mixture. If you have access to a live data scanner, check to see if the temperature reading from the sensor is accurate when cold.

The interesting part is if the sensor is sending a signal (even if it's wrong) the computer assumes it's working. Thus, it doesn't set the light.
