1997 Chevy S-10 what trainsmission fits my truck

I got my new truck pretty cheap then the transmission just went out. I have been told by junk yards that only a 96 or 97 s 10 with a V6 will match up to my truck. I found one from a 91 s 10 with a V6 and I wanted to know if the transmission would match up to my 97 s 10

I don't have the cross reference info for this, but will tell you, it may match up (bolt pattern) but that is about it. The newer one requires much more input from the computer.
