1996 Chevy S-10 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

i have a 1996 chevy s10. 4 cylinder. 2.2 liter. i went to start it and it wouldnt turn over. i put it in 2nd gear and pushed it down a hill.popped the clutch and it started. it wont start by a jump start any other way.. than it happened again and someone hit the gas tank under my truck with a hammer and told me to start it. and it started. i am a single mom with little income. i am told by just kids it is a starter and cylnoid but than one told me it was my fuel pump.. if i buy the starter it is over 100 dollars and they wont refund it if thats not what it is. any advice would be appreciated..please help...

Hi, when you turn the key to crank, is there any starter noise? If it cranks good but won't start, it isn't the starter.

I looked at an online partsbook, they don't show to be the same fuel pump. I'd borrow a fuel pressure gage somewhere. Some of the national brand autostores used to loan a fuel pressure gage. You can call and ask. I'd check everything I could before pulling the pump.

I can't hear your starter from here, if it is normal cranking sound and rpms, don't think it is your starter.
