I had same issue for couple of weeks. I thought it was the timing chain. Sometimes it would start, other's it would but run sloppy. I changed my timing chain (took a few days. 4.3 6 cyl is not like my old 70's Oldsmobile's). It ran fair for a week and then would not start. It WAS the fuel pump/sending unit. If you ever ran out of gas, that would cause the fuel pump inside the tank to 'go to bed'. Try this. With all accesories shut off, and no other backround noise, open driver's door, turn the key as to start the engine. Try to listen for the fuel pump to function/run. If you hear nothing, then the pump is not functioning. Be aware: when replacing the pump, normaly the sending unit and lines on an older model will need raplacing too. I live in Pa, long nasty Winter's and alot of salt. My tank was also shot so spent over $600 for entire fuel tank, pump assembly.
