1994 Chevy S-10 Four Wheel Drive Automatic

My truck makes a slight grinding noise in 2wd if I hit the 4wd switch then the 2wd switch again it stops. What is the noise from?

I'm pretty sure that in the 94's there is a vacuum check ball under the battery tray. They tend to leak vacuum. When it leaks bad enough, the 4wd will not fully engage. Check the vac lines going to this and then the cable that should go down to the front differential to engage those gears. HTH. Keep us posted.
