Engine Performance problem
1992 Chevy S-10 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My S10 stalls out after driving awhile. I have replaced fuel pump, computer, oxygen sensor, throttle position sensor and spark plugs, cap and wires. I even took it to a garage and they found nothing, drove it around town but it never stalled out for them. To get it to stall out you have to drive it over fifty miles an hour for at least twenty minutes. After stalling if you wait for fifteen minutes it will start up fine, drive great until it warms up then stalls again. I am always by myself when this happens but the other day my wife was with me when this happened. With the air cleaner removed looking down into carb, the engine started up okay but then the jets shooting the gas stopped and it began to stall again, they would shoot gas then stop again. Now I at least have a clue what is going on. My question is what is causing this? It seems that it is a heat issue messing up the fuel delivery system.

Welcome to the forum. Aren't you fuel injected, TBI? Maybe intermittently loosing the rpm signal? Any codes? Did you use a gage and check fuel pressure? Thanks for the donation.

The TBI was replaced. Fuel pressure okay. No codes and it is fuel injection.

If your losing injector pulse, I'd have to look for rpm signal, when the problem is ongoing. If your losing rpm signal, possible issues, pick-up coil-- ignition module-- wiring circuit, somewhere. What was the fuel pressure spec? I've seen injector spray pattern that looked good, but, the pressure was half of what it should have been.

The mechanic at the garage checked the fuel pressure and said it was normal. I replaced the ignition module last year. I will replace the pick-up coil, its under $20. I should mention that is has been using more gas since this has started. Living only about five miles from work, country driving, the truck runs and starts great so I have no problem.

Whatever you test, you have to do it when the problem is ongoing. If you test when everything is running great, you won't find anything. I hate to see you throw parts at it, need something to point us in the right direction?
