Code 42 is a spark timing issue. How long since a tune-up? With the engine running, the pcm controls the spark timing on the white wire at the distributor. That signal is a dc pulse. Above a certain rpm the pcm sends a 5 volt signal to the ignition module, tan/ black wire. That tells the ignition module to use the signal on the white wire for ignition timing. Check the signal on the white wire.
