When I turn on my car and the headlights and put it on drive, the rear lights will not turn on they only work when I brake?

Start by checking the bulbs and to see if your getting power to the bulbs, If your dash lights are out too, the older cars had 1 fuse for the tail and dash lights, replace the fuse. Some times you can get a little rust or corosion in the fuse box or the light bulb sockets so check for that too. If thats still not it, it could be a bad headlight switch or a bad conection on the switch, a test light will be your best friend on a job like this. Dont worry to much your car was a good one, no computers or high tech junk to deal with. Good luck, Rod
