My Daughter took her car in and had a new engine (with a warenty) put in. She has about 30.000 miles on this "new" one well she's been having problems. The guy told her she has a "shrunken piston" what is that. And they also told her thats not covered under the warenty that that's not part of the engine. How bad are they trying to screw her One I know its part of the engine but I've never heard of a shrunken piston and no one I've talked to has eaither please explain for me. Thanks

Are you sure it relates to the engine pistons or some sort of a piston outside the engine.

How did they come into conclusion on a shrunken piston-did they degut the engine and measure the diameter of the piston.I thought I've heard it all-this one here cracks me up. My advise get legal assistance. You're lucky they didn't tell you that they'll be using sky hooks to pull the engine to get to the shrunken piston

YOU or someone familiar with auto repair needs to talk to the guy your daughter talked.
Communication can get lost. So often I explain something to a customer thinking they are understanding, but in reality they totally mis-construe the essence of the conversation. People aren't used to hearing much of the mechanical jargon. I try to expain something as best as possible, but still don't always leave the custumer with a complete understanding. I had a conversation with a customer and gave him some recomendations. While on the phone, he expains it to his wife. What he said was certainly not what I said. His description sounded like the car was going to blow up if they didn't follow my reccomendations.

OR have it looked at by another shop for a second opinion.
