2007 Chevy Monte Carlo Engine Light

My wife was pumping gas in the car while it was running, ten minutes later she said the engine light came. Now every time we try to pump gas in the car, the pump keep shuting off as if the gas tank is full when it's not. So can you tell me what might be the problem?

Gross evap leak from having the gas cap off while the car is running. The evaporative systems are completely closed now, if there is any place for fuel vapor to get out (leak) it will set the light

Be sure the gas cap is on tight and then have the codes read, cleared. Ask for the code number just to be sure
