Hi nascarpat,
Yes, as a matter of fact, I had the same engine stalling problem with my 2000 Chevy Impala LS,
3.8 ltr, V-6. It would stall when driving and have no indication, except the battery in the message center,
that anything had occurred. After about 10-15 minutes, I could start it and drive as if nothing had happened. The engine computer didn't even see it as a problem. NO CODES AT ALL.
I finally found a mechanic who was willing to work the problem until he fixed it. After about a week he called and told me my car was possessed. He called the following day to tell me the Crankshaft Position Sensor was defective. After it was replaced, the engine has not stalled again. (That was 3 years ago)
I'm pretty sure that the 3.8Ltr. V-6 wasn't changed much from 2000 to 2004. So I'd recommend that you replace the Sensor.
