I own a 2002 monte carlo that I drove everyday, now the car hesitate to come up to speed when I first take off from a light. People told me I needed to change my fuel filter and get a tune up so I got that done and it still didn't run right. Then the man at auto zone said I need to change my transmission filter, so I did that and it still didn't work. So now there are people telling me to change my fuel pump and I really don't think it is my fuel pump. Now i'm here to ask for your opinion on what could be the problem.

You should have your fuel pressure checked to see if it drops off during accelleration. If it does, then change your fuel pump.

I agree with DENNYP, this sounds like a weak fuel pump issue, here is a guide to help you test the fuel pressure which you can rent the kit from the auto parts store for cheap or free.

Key On Engine Off 52-59 psi

This guided can help as well

Here is how to do the test and change the fuel pump out in case it fails the test. You are lucky because the fuel pump has a trap door. Check out the images (below). Please let us know what happens.
