2001 Chevy Malibu Car seems to be stuck in second gear

I have a 2001 Chevy Malibu that recently seems to be stuck in gears. The car appears to change from 1-2 gear. But after 2nd gear it drives like it can't progress past 2nd gear. The car sounds like it is reving high. But the RPM's are very low and appear to be stuck.

How does the engine perform. Have you had it checked yet. Could be a bad cat converter also.

I haven't had it checked yet. Just wanted to see what I should expect as far as a diagnosis. So far I have put off taking the car in. But it appears to be getting worse.

I would get it checked asap before further damage can occur
