1999 Chevy Lumina 6 cyl Automatic 135000 miles

I just bought this 1999 Lumina 3 days ago. The anti-lock brake light is on and the Check Engine light came on today, I took it up to Auto Zone to see what the problem is and it came back to a Throttle Position Sensor or a Speed Sensor. Where are these located, and what are their purposes? Is there a possibility of my car breaking down if I do not get them replaced immidiately and wait a week?

Update - I forgot to mention that the brake light was on when I bought the car. The check engine light is the new light that came on. I believe the numbers that were read are: P0502 and P0122. Hopefully those are right. Also, the car shifts hard from first to second, if that has anything to do with either of these sensors.

Before we go any further, please post the actual code NUMBERS from Autozone for proper diagnostic. Their scanner only reads the check engine light, not the ABS. ABS system requires a scanner capable of ABS system, such as this one,

Autozone dos not have this scanner, but most repair shop will have similar units.
