I purchased a used Lumina for a work car. The car starts and runs fine. The Service Light comes on and the change oil light also comes on and goes off.
I plan to take it in for diagnostic check, but I was wondering if it was anything that I could do?

Getting the trouble code causing the Check Engine light to stay on would be a good start. The repair manual will tell you which two contacts to bridge on the test outlet to get the codes, or you can simply stop by a parts store that does that for free.

Second generation On Board Diagnostics you CANNOT bridge these contacts to flash the codes from the PCM. However most parts stores do have a code reader that will give you the code. But remember that the code isn't always going to be correct or allow you to graph any components to see if another failed part is giving another false readings.
