First of all, "Stop Leak" is a no, no. That's snake oil in a bottle, and instead of "stopping a leak", it only clogs up your cooling system.
Now, if you have a leaking radiator hose, or a crack in the fitting, this will stop your cooling system from building up pressure, which it needs to keep the coolant from boiling. No matter how small the leak, you'll overheat.
If your radiator hose is old, buy a new one. If it's new, then remove it and take sand paper and clean the surface of the radiator inlet where the hose connects. Then make sure you install the hose clamp in the proper position (on the radiator side of the nipple) and tighten it down correctly. (Not too loose, not too tight)
Also, it the leak is fixed but you continue to experience overheating, the that "stop leak" has probably clogged up your radiator/heater core. You'll need to have your system back flushed and new coolant installed.
