2004 Chevy Impala Overheating

04 Impala with 90,000 miles. Temperature jumps up when driving and when I put it in neutral and let it coast the temp goes down. Fans are working, doesn't seem to be any leaks. I think that the thermostat is sticking. Someone also mentioned that the intake gaskets may be bad. This started after a hard rain and the engine got wet. The power steering froze up for a few minutes and then it started overheating. Any suggestions?

You broke your serpentine drive belt. Open the hood and look at the belt. Get back to us

Belts dont just pop off for no reason. Physically move every pulley and see if one is wobbly or seized and install new belt and go from there.
