Transmission problem
2001 Chevy Impala Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 107000 miles

THIS MORNING WHEN I WAS AT A LIGHT MY CAR WOULD NOT GAIN SPEED IN DRIVE WHEN IT WAS TIME TO TAKE OFF. IT STALLED OUT AT A UP HILL LIGHT AND I WAS REVING IT IN DRIVE BUT NO GO, I THEN SHIFTED TO 2 GEAR AND IT TOOK OFF ROUGH BUT WAS ABLE TO START MOVING. I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR AND IT WON'T PASS SMOG DUE TO THE CAT CONVERTER.
IS THIS A LOST CAUSE?
HOW DO I GET MY TRANNY TO CATCH GEAR?
PLEASE HELP!

You cant even check tranny fluid on this car with out a lift
because its done from under the car right by the axle
my suggestion is to have it looked at
or you can try to add tranny fluid which I do not recommend with out checking if fluid low
good luck

A restricted cat converter could cause no power or stalling. This is also a common problem on this model. I would have it tested for excessive back pressure over 2 psi.
