2000 Chevy Impala PO 405

We had the EGR changed after engine light displayed but the engine light still illuminated. Was told that the car would have to go back to the dealer to get an additional software upgrade installed to the computer for the PO 405 DTC. Isn't this just for a low signal? Is there any way to install the upgrade without going to the dealer if that is the case? Is there a way to test PO 405 DTC like you have shown the test procedure for PO 403 and 404?
