Check engine light comes on, only in gear at ideal. Also is there a type of code scanner I can buy for older cars?

I posted how to get your code's without a code reader.I also emailed it to you so you can read it better i know it say's it's for a saturn but it will work the same on your car too.

I don't have any information on your car for that old of a car. But from what I have always see on the gm car's is that the connector's are on the bottom let corner of the dash. Someone may have moved it or did something they shouldn't have with it.I would look again for the connector and look for loose wire's under the dash.
