I have a 99 corvette and its making a squealing sound coming from what sounds like the main drive pulley. I lubed the belt with STP belt dressing, but it continues to squeal. I replaced what I thought was the idler pulley, but that didn't work. Now someone told me that it may be the water pump. When engine is cold, the noise is very loud until the engine warms up, then the noise is still there, but not as loud. Does anyone know what might be causing this noise. I have kept an eye on the temperature gauge and it stays consistant. It seems once it gets up to 220 the squealing is not as loud.

Im begging you for your sake stop using belt squeek fixer in a can. That does so much damage I cannot explain. Well id be looking closely at the alternator. They have sealed bearings and the alternator goes through extreme temperature changes fast. You can remove belt and spin alternator pulley and see if you hear the noise. Also double check all idler pulleys and ac compressor pulley. Hope this helps. If you still cant find the noise, get back to us on this post and I can check for bulletins for this noise.

Thank you for your quick response. I have already replaced the idler pulley and I believe the squealing is coming from the tensioner pulley. I will isolate the pulley that is squealing and go from there. Please let me know if you have any other suggestions. You have been a great help.

While I have your attention, I was wondering if you know where I could purchase just the metal cable for the driver side window system. The motor is fine and the track and the pulleys are fine as well. There is no where you can just purchase the cable without going to the dealer and purchasing the whole system for $400 plus installation. Begging for help, I have syrofoam holding up the window on my baby.

Unfortunately I know of no way to just replace the cable. You must buy the whole regulator. Sorry.
