1996 Chevy Corsica wont stay running

1996 Chevy Corsica 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

When I turn the car on its starts great but the problem is when I let go of the key the car turns off so I change the steering colum because of other reasons and the same problem happened when I turned it on and let go of the key it turns off

Hi:

It sounds like there is a problem with the ignition. When the key is in the start position, more energy is sent to the ignition. However, when it is in the run position, the power is lowered to prevent ignition parts from going bad too fast. Something is causing that to malfunction. You may want to take this to a repair shop.

Keep in mind, it could be the switch too.
