2000 Chevy Cavalier problem with headlights flashing

Im having a problem with my 2000 chevy cavalier. The other day the healdights started flashing. It does this with the alarm off, or on. There is a clicking noise in the dashboard, it seems to be towards the left side, left of the steering wheel, and to the right of the fusebox (that is behind the fuse box, towards the inside of the dash. it makes this clicking noise, then the headlights (coulld be the driving daytime lights?) come on, then turn off. It pauses a few seconds (maybe 5-6 seconds?) then comes back on. Its been doing this now for two days. I tried un hooking the battery, re-connecting, but it did it again. Is there any idead what could be causing this?
