Steering problem
2000 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

my son came home from work said my steering is out. car was hard to steer like it was out of steering flued checked and it was out of flued. filled it up and still no power steering. did he burn something up like the pump?

He might have. Where did the fluid go?

The strut mounts on these can become quite stiff and overpower the power steering system.

I would jack up the front end and see if the wheels turn back and forth with minimal resistance.

Need to find why the fluid was as low as it was also.

Are there any noises when turning?

looks like a line is leaking also no noise when turning

The line needs to be fixed. IF the pressure is not good, then the system needs to be checked for pressure with a gauge to see if it is low pressure or blockage.

1st i beleive the leak is a slow leak it has not lost any flued in two days, also i jacked the front up and the steering seemed a lot easier and no noises

Well...Ask the boy if there has been any noises...Whining etc.

Being a slow leak and draining down the reservior surely must have given some indication when the pump went dry. I'd be surprised if it didn't.
Unless there is a sound system involved...lol.

Based on it being slow and the reservior empty, this could have been a problem for a while and probably did burn out the pump.

A pressure gauge hooked in line would verify this.
