I got a 1998 chevy cavalier. It has a 2.2 engine with a three speed automatic. It wont shift out of first, but the reverse gear works. There are no check engine lights on. Can you help me please.

There is a hydraulic problem with the trans. Hydraulic pressure is controlled by a TV cable or the PCM.

If equipped with a TV cable, then it may be broke, otherwise the PCM or solenoid or relay is bad.

It is best to have it checked by a trans. Shop. Do not drive for any extended period of time with this condition, as the trans can overheat.

What side of the transmission does this cable attach to?

Does it attach to a nipple looking piece where the throttle cable attaches to?
