1998 Chevy Cavalier 4 cyl Automatic

I was calling around to find out prices for a starter for my 1998 chevy cavalier. When calling they asked me what the cage or gage size was on my starter. I'm not sure what they meant. They said there is a 3 1/2 in a 3 7/8 in and all these different sizes. How do I find that out and what is the difference and does it even make a difference. There was different prices for each size.

1998 Chevy, Cavalier 2.2L engine if this helps.

They need to know the diameter where it goes into the flywheel. Remove yours and take it with you to get a new one. Once the first shop tells you the size, tell them you'll be back when you get the money. Then you can call around.
