Hi,

I have a 1993 Chevy Cavalier with 247,000 KMS on it, I am having a little trouble with the starter, although it was my fault, I accidentally touched the 2 battery posts together while trying to take the cables off, and I accidentally melted the Negative post off the battery, and I think it fried my starter, it's not the ECM, and when I try to start it while boosting to another vehicle with another battery I found, everything else works, like the fuel pump and I hear all the relays clicking, but when I put it in the "Start" position, nothing, and I don't hear a click on the starter, all I hear is a relay click. My dad thinks its the fusible links but I think I need a new starter, but my car now doesn't start, I was wondering if anyone had any pointers on how to get this baby running again

thanks

Take the starter off and have it tested at any auto parts store (free service).

The starter is connected directly to the battery, so disconnect negative terminal before removal.

Your dad may be correct, but I would test the starter to eliminate it before doing anything else.

My starter works fine, so im guessing it's the fusible links, on my starter wiring there are 2 thicker black wires on the same wiring as the starter, are those the links? Because if they are, they wont be hard to fix.
