I have a 1998 chevy camaro (v6) with 108,000 miles. My radio was cutting in and out so I replaced the stock CD player. But the problem continued. I disconnected all the speackers and the radio still cuts in and out, so they are not grounding out. The raido is also not lossing memory when the power goes out so its not the main power cable. So the questione is is there somthing else that could be the problem

other info, not sure if its related but the safty dinger when you press the door locks with the door open works sometimes and not others.

Hello just a few suggestions. You more than likely have a short some where in the wiring. Here is what I would do, go to a local hardware or circuit city or radio shack and buy some good wire think in gauge thickness, and then rewire the radio by running it to your fuse box. Run the wiring through paneling weres you wont be able to see the wiring. Take the yellow wire which is the constant 12volt wire and find a fuse in your box that has constant volts (key on key off). Instument panel fuse is a good one. Now take the red wire on the radio the relay or key of wire and find a fuse that works only when the key is on or when the switch is turned all the way back. Power windows is a good one sometimes. Now find a metal ground for the ground wire in the radio compartment. Make sure you use electrical tape foe you severed connections this should fix the problem.

That is if you want togo this route.

Let me no what you come up with

Richard

This was great information. I ended up unpluging the yellow (key on/key off) wire from the fuse box and tapped in to another fuse on the fuse box and now my radio works perficaly.
Thanks for the great help.
